The Paterson Arts Council, a 501 C (3) was formed in 2009 with the mission of transforming the downtown historic district of Paterson, NJ through art and cultural events. That same year, the PAC organized the first of many ArtWalks which activated underutilized, often vacant, industrial spaces by occupying them with temporary art exhibitions, installations, demonstrations and musical performances. The ArtWalks has drawn thousands of residents, families and tourists to downtown Paterson for one early summer weekend each year for the past six years. Each year hundreds of artists, working in every artistic medium imaginable and hailing from Paterson, the greater NY metropolitan area, other states and many foreign countries have exhibited their artwork through the efforts of the PAC. Now in its seventh year, the ArtWalk is shaping up to be the largest and most inclusive yet with local and outside artists making preparations to transform the historic district and perpetuate the positive change that art can have within a community. Collaborative partners for this year’s ArtWalk include the City of Paterson, the Great Falls National Park, the Paterson Museum, NJCDC, Ivanhoe Collective and others.
